About Volunteering
HEAF provides volunteers with a variety of opportunities to help high-potential, underserved students become high-achieving college graduates. Potential volunteers are screened, provided an orientation, and invited to serve in a capactiy that allows them to leverage their time and talents in ways that make a difference.

Engage.
  • Career Mentoring - Brings corporate volunteers together with a small cohort of HEAF students for 6-8 weeks of career specific mentoring and exploration in a corporate setting. Current corporate partners include Sullivan and Cromwell; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz; and College Sports Television.
  • College Bound Mentoring - Partners individual volunteers with high school seniors in need of personal guidance and supprt during the college application process.
  • HEAF Brotherhood/Sisterhood Mentors - Our gender-specific programs engage dynamic young people in a variety of social, goal-setting, and community service projects. Volunteers can participate in one-time activities or provide ongoing mentoring to these unique young people.
  • College Connection - Help HEAF connect to admissions professionals at your alma mater for the purpose of planning campus visits and interviews for our students.
Educate.
  • Guest Lecturers - Professionals are invited to provide a real-world perspective in any number of elective courses offered at HEAF. Courses include: The Stock Market Game, Children & War, Career 411, and Doctor, Doctor.
  • Saturday Academy - Volunteers may commit to a trimester of one-to-one tutoring in middle school math and English Language Arts as part of our weekly Saturday Academy.
Elevate.
  • Summer Internships - Host HEAF college students in meaningful summer internships that provide invaluable workplace exposure and a modest salary to help students contribute to college costs.
  • Onward Winter Conference - Adivse HEAF college students on career planning and graduate school admissions at our annual winter conference for college students.
  • Pass It On - If you are excited about involvement with HEAF, encourage your friends and colleagues to visit our website and learn more about the important work we are doing.
  • Pay It Forward - Make an in-kind donation or financial donation to help ensure that we have the resources we need to help students realize their college goals:
    • In-Kind: Donate theatre tickets, donate printing services, volunteer to help with PR, product donation, donate art supplies.
    • Financial: Finance a child's annual participation in the program, sponsor a student's SAT prep participation, offer a summer enrichment or college scholarship, help us meet general operating costs, Adopt-A-Program (High Expectations, College Quest, Summer Quest, or Onward).
