High Expectations: For Grades 6-8

High Expectations is the first program in the HEAF Continuum. The program enrolls high-potential middle school students and inspires and prepares them to compete for slots in New York's top public high schools. Students in High Expectations meet after school, on Saturdays and during the summer.

Program Elements:


  • Continuous academic advisement for students and parents about NYC's best high school options
  • HEAF Saturday Academy (mandatory for all middle school students)
  • After school classes and workshops in English language, mathematics, and the arts, as well as content area subjects such as science, social sciences, and foreign languages
  • Test preparation for the New York City High School Entrance Placement Exam (HSEP), the city-wide ELA, and for 8th graders, the SHSAT.
  • College workshops and tours
  • HEAF Summer Quest 6-week summer enrichment camp
