Volunteer

Come join us! There are many opportunities to get involved with HEAF. Our students will benefit from your skills and coaching, and you will get the satisfaction that comes from working with motivated youth and serving your community.

Opportunities to volunteer at HEAF include:

  • Mentoring students participating in our fraternity and sorority
  • Engaging colleagues in your workplace for 6 weeks of career mentoring
  • Mentoring a high school senior through the college application process
  • Providing academic assistance to 1-3 students in need of additional support
  • Joining us as a guest lecturer and provide a real-world perspective for students interested in your career path
  • College Connection—help HEAF bring students to your alma mater by linking us with admissions professionals, interviewing our students and helping to organize campus visits.

One-Time Commitments

Career Panels/Roundtable Discussions
Throughout the year, HEAF exposes our younger high school students to various professions and encourages them to begin thinking about their future career goals. Your perspectives on your profession, and how you got there, help our students open the door to different career possibilities.

Job Shadowing
There is nothing like on-the-job experience. By having high school students accompany a professional throughout a typical workday, HEAF aims to expose them to proper work decorum and the reality of working within a profession. The standard job shadowing session lasts three to four hours and takes place during school breaks and vacations.

Corporate Volunteers

Project Based Mentoring
HEAF hopes to match a group of high school students to a company or organization within New York City for a five-week period. Volunteers at the partnering corporation will work with students to complete a project that introduces students to the industry and provides them with practical experience in that field. Projects can be specifically designed for students or students can be integrated into current work projects.

Internships
HEAF works to partner with New York City businesses to offer our senior high school students internship experiences. Internships are intended to provide practical exposure to careers of interest, as well as the opportunity to recognize the congruence between students' educational plans and their ultimate career goals.

Please email us if you are interested in volunteering.
